After 24+ years of homeschooling with 3 kids, we've learned how to make a challenging journey a lot easier than it should be. After all, why go through all the difficulty if it isn't necessary? There's a simpler way to getting things done effectively and efficiently. We had to learn it all the hard way.
1. Keep Things Simple
It's very easy to overthink and overcomplicate things. It's also easy to get distracted by all the noise and get overwhelmed. Keep things simple. Don't try too many things at once. Find what works best and stick to that.
One of the beauties of homeschooling is being able to customize your journey which means your journey should be something that works for the family.
It's not surprising at all, but the simpler you keep things, the more effective and efficient things will be.
2. Be Flexible
Things will happen - good and bad - you need to be prepared for it. Things don't always go as expected. In fact, it almost never does.

A curriculum might not be working out, you or kids might not be feeling well, whatever it may be, you need to be flexible enough to accept it, handle it, learn from it and move forward.
Be a problem solver and ask for help if needed. This is also an important lesson for the kids.
3. Create Your "Own" Schedule
Don't copy. What works for one family might not work for yours. Find the best time to do school and make it known to everyone.
That way, you won't get distracted by calls, texts or visitors. Don't forget to include some breaks. Everyone needs it. It's that important.
4. Be Organized & Informed
Being organized makes everything 10x easier. You don't lose, forget or misplace things. This is also an important lesson that kids can get involved in.
It's your job as the parent to stay informed. Connect with other homeschoolers. Always be aware and stay up to date with your local homeschooling news and laws.
5. Make Learning Fun
Studies have proven that when education is fun and interactive, learning is more effective. Do some research for educational activities, trips, movies, games, etc.
6. Join A Community
Whether online or local, it's a great way to get advice, get some extra motivation when you're not feeling up to it and to learn from others.
7. Be Committed As A Team
Teamwork makes the dream work. Set goals and work towards them.
You will not have a perfect journey, no one does. There will be bumps on the road. Stay persistent, committed and always work as a team.
There will also come times when you have to accept your strengths and weaknesses especially when it comes to teaching different subjects. After all, you can't teach what you don't know. When something like this happens, ask for help.
You can do a search on Google, make a post in a forum or online group or even hire a tutor to help. The important thing is to know is that it's perfectly ok to ask for help. Homeschooling is a daily journey of growth and understanding.
Your family's homeschooling should not be complicated. It should be something that all members of the family can easily adapt to and duplicate. If something doesn't feel right, ask for feedback from each family member and adjust as necessary.
Don't be too hard on yourself and always operate as a team. Each member matters and their voice heard. Solve problems and make beautiful memories together as a family.
